won't you tell your dad get off my back?

tell him what we said 'bout paint it black? rock n roll is here to stay. come inside where it's ok, and i'll shake you.

I'm in the autumn mood. there's no denying it. I'm drinking beer, and listening to big star, all dewy-eyed. feeling so romantic, and sleepy in this nice, serene way. where you just want to bust out of your skin. when the cold is still good, because it's not too bad; and the rain is ok, so long as you're not caught in it. yeah, i'm in the midst of that little balance. and I kind of love it. I feel really creative. It always happens at this point in the year. I must relish it before the sweeping colds of winter pull me into a pit only spring can revive me from.

now if only I could find time to paint.

about my summer vacation...

summer vacation you say? somewhat. this is kind of, sort of, basically just a collection of photos from various endeavors this summer. i mean, i guess i've been holding out, since i was intentionally keeping my work super, duper secret. to be unveiled at the opening. here is a taste of what is hanging at dovetail right now (those classy ladies took the following photos, in fact).

One of the amusing things that occurred at this opening was the calmness of the whole event. I intentionally petitioned my friend Tony to play "security", because I didn't want shit to get fucked up. & by that, I mean, the store. The funny thing about it wasn't that detail, but that one of the store owner's commented on how this was probably their tamest opening. I was almost a little hurt! haha. My husband & I have somewhat of a reputation for being wild, at times. And those times are usually when we leave our house. So we try not to do so. All joking aside, I'm glad nothing got destroyed. Especially since I contributed a 30 of PBR & a fifth of Jim Beam. Had my bike messenger friends entered the premises, it woulda got rowdy.

&&

Well, anyhow... I'm sure you've noticed the lovely frames, & their even lovelier prints. But, the frames didn't come that way. It was a somewhat labor intensive process to collect them, & then spray paint them. I am a bit of a stickler for details, & dissatisfied with anything ordinary.

This summer I did QUITE a bit of knitting. I haven't really had the time to experiment with any variety of projects, as I was constantly working on the same thing: beer coozies. These things have been very popular, & with good cause. They are fucking RAD! If you care to purchase one, just shoot me an e-mail. I can do any combination of colours.

the almighty TALL BOY COOZIE!

40 coozie!
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
just so ya know.... 12oz cans/bottles are $6, tall boy/22oz are $8, & 40oz are $10.

YOU'LL WASTE MORE THAN THAT AT THE BAR!!
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

& (i think) Finally.... I submitted something to the Label 228 project this past winter, & the book recently came out. Obviously, I wouldn't be mentioning it if i weren't in it. So... Let's see if you can identify which one of these is mine!

and finally...

This season is coming to a close. Despite my virtual vacation from life, it has not felt like much of a summer at all. I went to the beach a few times, got sunburned once or twice, & had a number of drunken evenings, but it never got overwhelmingly hot. AND, I spent much of my time indoors, preparing for an end of summer Art Opening.

It was initially scheduled for the beginning of September, but due to some scheduling conflicts, it is now going to be held on Friday, August 28th. I am extremely excited. I have worked very hard on this since June. I was working fervently before I was ever given the opportunity to display at the incredibly generous Dovetail; After the deal was sealed I went into overdrive.

In between juggling odd jobs, & part-time work, I could be found in my box of a studio. overheating and trying not to get sweaty fingerprints all over the piece I was working on at the moment.

After all this, the culmination of my hard work will be proudly displayed for the next month at 1452 W. Chicago Avenue:

The cherry on top for me is that after all this, I get to stay on at one of the gigs I picked up over the summer. The one I truly adored.

I guess I got to have my cake & eat it too. I somehow managed to pay my share of the rent for each month, spare one, since I was let go for no reason by my smack-addicted former boss. NEVER trust a junkie.

I look forward to seeing everyone & anyone at this event. And don't forget: There will be beer & Easy Cheez!

yikes

I can't get the term "yacht rock" out of my head. It's just been swimming around, inside my brain, since Friday. It's a really asinine way to describe anything, and this is not merely limited to music.

Essentially, Yacht Rock seems to describe many of the recent crop of buzz bands. You know, like Vampire Weekend, and their counterparts. It's not that I necessarily hold any grudge toward these "musicians", it just seems that the music-fashion tie is becoming more largely focused around the, ahem, fashion.

I know looking like you purchase your garments from an L.L Bean catalog means you can rock the fuck outta my ass, but I will take the flamboyance (if you will) of Motley CrΓΌe, any day.

turn the radio on...

One of the things that I love about the radio is that you can turn it on and and hear the song that completely fits your mood, and you didn't even know it until you programmed your dial.

You can choose an album you want to listen to, very easily, and think that it's what you prefer to listen to. Out of all of the thousands of songs, or records, or cd's, that you own, you think that you want to listen to that one thing. Listening to the radio is like playing the lottery, and when you're feeling real down, sometimes you win big in a way you cannot project by picking your own tunes.

The particular song in question is "Sinnerman" by Nina Simone. And it could not have been more perfect for the time I decided to switch it on.

Thank You WLUW.

The joys of the unemployed...

Here I am. Another day nearly under my belt. Sometimes the minutes drag on. Sometimes they do not. But most every day is ultimately the same. I wait and wait for a large some of money that I am owed to be released into my possession. I know this is foolish, I delude myself into thinking I will be paid. Even just a small chunk... Like 20 dollars, small. And, So, I am broke. My jobless-ness is not this mythical "funemployment"I hear so much about... So, I wait.

and wait.

and wait.

and wait.

and I make a few paintings, or collages in the mean time. and believe me... time IS mean.

I won't be releasing any of these creations into the wild until September. When I have my first solo show. I will let you know all the details are they arise.

and don't forget...
time is mean.

(thanks time magazine.)
